how would you advise someone to get involved with gal? I am from the UK and never know how to put a gyaru piece together :/ and I havent got long or short hair so I don’t feel very in keeping with the style xo
Hum~ I say focus less on the label of “gal” and just wear what you fancy instead of trying to fit into someone else’s idea of what gal is! I think it’s better to find your own personal style while looking to Gal fashion for inspiration. It’s a great jumping off point! Download scans or find a model you feel you connect with and follow her blog and outfit snaps. There are gal styles for all hair lengths too so don’t think you’ve got to fit into some exact “mold” of 1 magazine’s hair style focus. True, Ageha is dominated by long hair, but Ranzuki is full of short cuts, and there’s in between all over (I’m thinking Scawaii this month had lots of mid-lengths actually! Like Ikemegu.) And give yourself time. Unless you’re rolling in dough buying a new full wardrobe is pricey! So instead look into investing in just 1 full outfit that really fits to what you want to lean towards style-wise. This will help prevent buying lots of random pieces that don’t match or aren’t in the same sorta style genre making it difficult to match together. And practice your make & hair to find what works for you. It took me a long time to fully understand curling my hair even with step-by-step tutorials from mags.
Of course this is all just how I see things. I know some might look at these styles and think there is a strict code that should be followed in order to meet some sort of made up standard.
I don’t see it that way. I think if that were the true nature of the style then we’d never get cool new influences like Chinatsu Wakatsuki and the looks would be so boring & un-fun. Gal was started originally as anti-fashion so have fun XDDv
what’s your gyaru style?
I wouldn’t really know how to “label” my personal style. I don’t really adhere to just any sorta “gyaru style.” Instead I look at certain fashion styles like shibuhara, amekaji, surf kaji as inspirations. I also like sweet styles like mori girl, and street styles too~ I’m kinda all over the map XD
They say circle lenses on a daily basis, they can make your eyes go really bad quick! The japanese fashion models seem to wear them nearly everyday, does that mean their eyes suck too?
Circle lenses don’t make your “eyes go bad.” I’m not sure what “bad” means for you but it sounds as if you think wearing them gives you bad eyesight which isn’t true. Many of the models already have to wear prescription daily lenses. Circle lenses though can be thicker so wearing them for more than 8 hours can makes your eyes feel tired.
I wish I had a better answer for you than “I’m not really sure.” I will say most nail salons will do /some/ level of nail art/glitter gel nails/etc but as far as doing all-out deco nails I’m sadly of little help. When I used to sometimes wear deco nails they were always purchased online. Hopefully someone in the area will see this & have a better answer or you.

There are many Japanese fashion models and my favorite is MEG. :)
New commercial for the popular Diamond Lash brand of false eyelashes, featuring fashion designer and gyaru of the moment Chinatsu Wakatsuki. (Check out the other two versions of the commercial here.) Who needs candy when you have this?
